Side events FAQs
What Are Side Events?
Side Events offer attendees a chance to participant in a variety of fun activities, standard tournaments and tournaments using alternative play rulesets.
Participants earn Prize Wall Tickets for playing which are redeemable for merchandise such as Pokémon Booster Packs, Pokémon video games, Pokémon plushies and more.
Side Events are organized in two main types:
• On-Demand – Events which have a lower number of participants that start as soon as enough participants have registered to play.
• Scheduled – Larger tournaments with a fixed starting time. Some scheduled side events such as the Challenges and Cups award attendees with Championship Points (CP). Those Championship Points help players work toward earning an invitation to the World Championships!
Who Can Play In Side Events?
Any attendee that has a spectator pass or competitor pass.
How Do I Register For Side Events?
Registration for all side events takes place on site (excluding Scheduled Side Events).
Scheduled Side Event registration opens online via RK9. Keep an eye on our social media pages for when registration opens for each Scheduled Side Events.
What Items Do I Need To Compete In Side Events?
Each side event is different in regards to the items you need to compete:
Pokémon Trading Card Game – All participants must have a Pokémon deck which is compatible with the events format (excluding Pack Battles or Build and Battle events in which cards are provided to the participants).
Pokémon Video Game – All Participants must have their own Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 with a copy of Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet updated to the most current version of the game. It is strongly encouraged to bring the device charger with you.
Pokémon GO – All participants must have their own mobile device with Pokémon GO installed and updated to the most current version of the game. It is strongly encouraged to bring the device charger or an external battery charger with you.
How Much Does It Cost To Enter A Side Event?
Registration fees vary for each Side Event but range anywhere from $5 USD to $30 USD.
What Prizes Can I Win From Side Events?
Participants earn Prize Wall Tickets which are redeemable for merchandise such as Pokémon Booster Packs, Pokémon video games, Pokémon plushies and more.
Some Side Events also award additional prizing in the form of Pokémon Booster Packs or Championship Points.
Can I Redeem Prize Wall Tickets From A Previous Regional Championship Event?
No, Prize Wall tickets must be redeemed at the event in which they were awarded.
Trading Card Game Side Events descriptions
Pokémon TCG Standard 4 Player Pod – $10
4 players will play in a Round Robin bracket in the Pokémon Trading Card Game Standard format.
Prize Wall tickets are awarded to all participants based on their final placement.
This is an On-Demand Side Event and will start as soon as enough participants have registered to play.
A legal Standard Pokémon Trading Card Game Deck is required to participate
Pokémon TCG Gym Leader Challenge 4 Player Pod – $10
4 players will play in a Round Robin bracket in the Pokémon Trading Card Game Gym Leader Challenge format.
Prize Wall tickets are awarded to all participants based on their final placement.
This is an On-Demand Side Event and will start as soon as enough participants have registered to play.
A legal Gym Leader Challenge Pokémon Trading Card Game Deck is required to participate
Pokémon TCG Ditto Pack Battle 4 Player Pod – $10
4 players will play in a Round Robin bracket in the TCG Pack Battle format using the Ditto draft rules which can be found in the Alternate Rules Handbook.
Using a single Pokémon booster pack, players will add ten energy of any type to their booster pack to create a 20-card deck and play a two-prize card game. Basic Energy provides every type of Energy but provides only 1 Energy at a time. For Round 2 of the event, players receive an additional Pokémon Booster Pack and add 10 additional cards to their deck to play a three-prize game. Round 3 will use those same 30-card decks for play.
Prize Wall tickets are awarded to all participants based on their final placement.
This is an On-Demand Side Event and will start as soon as enough participants have registered to play.
All Pokémon cards for this Side Event are supplied to the participants. Pokémon cards outside of those supplied are not allowed
Pokémon TCG Raid Battles – $10
In this Multiplayer experience, players will cooperate to take down a Raid Boss being played by a Pokémon Judge. For more information on the the Raid Battle format please refer to the Alternate Rules Handbook.
Prize Wall tickets are awarded to all participants.
This is an On-Demand Side Event and will start as soon as enough participants have registered to play.
A legal Standard Pokémon Trading Card Game Deck is required to participate
Pokémon TCG Sisterhood League – $15
The Pokémon Sisterhood League is a side event series at our Championships events to celebrate the women and nonbinary Trainers that are a part of our community!
This is an inclusive tournament open to those Trainers in attendance. We hope that these events serve to create a safe and welcoming space for our Trainers.
There are three rounds of play, and this is a Best of One event with players providing their own 60-card deck in the Standard format.
This is a scheduled Side Event that awards Prize Wall tickets to participants based on their final placement.
A legal Standard Pokémon Trading Card Game Deck is required to participate
Pokémon TCG Gym Leader Challenge – $15
Come play in the Pokémon TCG’s most popular casual format!
Players will play in Best of One matches (three rounds of play) using their own Gym Leader Challenge-legal deck.
This is a scheduled Side Event that awards Prize Wall tickets to participants based on their final placement.
A legal Gym Leader Challenge Pokémon Trading Card Game Deck is required to participate
Pokémon TCG Build & Battle – $30
Play in this pre-release style event with all materials provided!
Players will receive a Build and Battle kit to build their 40-card deck for the event in Best of One rounds (three rounds of play).
This is a scheduled Side Event that awards Prize Wall tickets to participants based on their final placement.
Build & Battle kit will be provided
Pokémon TCG Parent Tournament – $5
While the Juniors and Seniors play, so do we celebrate the parents who helped get them here.
An event open to all parents in the venue (not just those with children playing in the event), just provide your own Standard-legal deck for the event and be ready to play in new and unique ways!
Three rounds of play, this event will observe the lunch break for the TCG Junior and Senior divisions.
This is a scheduled Side Event that awards Prize Wall tickets to participants based on their final placement.
A legal Standard Pokémon Trading Card Game Deck is required to participate
Pokémon TCG Standard Tournament – $15
This event is similar to the TCG Standard 4 Player Pod, but with even more participants!
Players will provide their own 60-card deck in the Standard format (not including any banned cards in their deck).
Players will then play 3 Rounds, Best of One matches, with no Top Cut.
This is a scheduled Side Event that awards Prize Wall tickets to participants based on their final placement.
A legal Standard Pokémon Trading Card Game Deck is required to participate
Pokémon TCG Challenge – $15
In Pokémon League Challenge tournaments, players can earn Championship Points (CP) and work toward earning an invitation to the World Championships!
These events are designed to be a player’s first experience of formal tournament competition before moving up to League Cups, Regional Championships, and beyond.
Players will play a set number of Best of One matches, 30-minute rounds (number of rounds to be announced onsite based on event attendance) without Top Cut.
This is a scheduled Side Event.

Pokémon TCG Cup – $25
In Pokémon League Cup tournaments, players can earn Championship Points (CP) and work toward earning an invitation to the World Championships!
Players will play a set number of Best of One matches, 30-minute rounds (number of rounds to be announced onsite based on event attendance) with a Top Cut.
This is a scheduled Side Event.

Video Game Side Events descriptions
Pokémon VG Current Regulation 4 Player Pod – $10
4 players will play in a Round Robin bracket in the current Pokémon Video Game Regulation format.
Prize Wall tickets are awarded to all participants based on their final placement.
All Participants must have their own Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 with a copy of Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet updated to the most current version of the game. It is strongly encouraged to bring the device charger with you.
This is an On-Demand Side Event and will start as soon as enough participants have registered to play.
Nintendo Switch and Pokémon Scarlet or Violet game with a current regulation team required
Pokémon VG Booster Draft 4 Player Pod- $10
Four players will build a team using Pokémon drafted from a Pokémon Booster Pack. Players will have 45 minuets to build their team, then will play in a Round Robin tournament.
Prize Wall tickets are awarded to all participants based on their final placement.
All Participants must have their own Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 with a copy of Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet updated to the most current version of the game. It is strongly encouraged to bring the device charger with you. A booster Pack will be supplied to each participant by a Pokémon Judge.
This is an On-Demand Side Event and will start as soon as enough participants have registered to play.
Nintendo Switch and Pokémon Scarlet or Violet game required. Pokémon Booster Pack will be provided
Pokémon VG Standard – $15
Play in the same format as the Regional Championships series!
Best of Three matches (three rounds of play) in the VG Standard format, Double Battles.
This is a scheduled Side Event that awards Prize Wall tickets to participants based on their final placement.
Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Scarlet or Violet, VG Standard-legal team of six Pokémon
Pokémon VG Booster Draft – $15
This event is similar to the VG Booster Draft 4 Player Pod, but with even more participants!
Players will compete in a single-pack Booster Draft and then, using the cards they drafted, create a team to play against others in their draft.
Three rounds of play.
This is a scheduled Side Event that awards Prize Wall tickets to participants based on their final placement.
Nintendo Switch and Pokémon Scarlet or Violet game required. Pokémon Booster Pack will be provided

Pokémon VG Malamar Cup – $15
Turn things upside-down while playing in a VG Standard event!
Players will play in Best of Three matches (three rounds of play) in the VG Standard format, Double Battles, with their Switch rotated upside down.
This is a scheduled Side Event that awards Prize Wall tickets to participants based on their final placement.
Nintendo Switch and Pokémon Scarlet or Violet game with a current regulation team required
Pokémon VG Chaos Cup – $15
You never know which team you’ll get!
Players will be provided a random Team Code and download that team at the beginning of the event for use in Best of One matches (three rounds of play).

Pokémon VG Challenge – $15
In Pokémon League Challenge tournaments, players can earn Championship Points (CP) and work toward earning an invitation to the World Championships!

Pokémon GO Great League 4 Player Pod – $10
4 players will play in a Round Robin bracket in the Pokémon GO Great League (Blind 3s) format.
Prize Wall tickets are awarded to all participants based on their final placement.
All participants must have their own mobile device with Pokémon GO installed and updated to the most current version of the game. It is strongly encouraged to bring the device charger or an external battery charger with you.
This is an On-Demand Side Event and will start as soon as enough participants have registered to play.

Pokémon GO Activity Desk – $10
Explore, catch Pokémon and meet fellow Pokémon Trainers while playing Pokémon GO.

Pokémon GO Master League – $15
Players will play in Best of Three matches using Blind Three teams in the Master League format (using Pokémon with no CP limit, Mega Evolution/Primal Reversion are banned; no team sheet required).
Three rounds of play.

Pokémon GO Great League – $15
Play in the same format as the Regional Championships Series!
Players will play in Best of Three matches using Blind Three teams in the Great League format (using Pokémon with 1500 CP or less; no team sheet required).
Three rounds of play.

Pokémon Stadium Mini-Game Tournament – $15
4 players will compete simultaneously in the Mini-Games within the Pokémon Stadium video games.
The first player to earn five coins wins.
This is a scheduled Side Event that awards Prize Wall tickets to participants based on their final placement.
No prior knowledge or special equipment required
Pokémon Puzzle League Tournament – $10
4 players will compete head to head in the Pokémon Puzzle League video game.
This event uses a double-elimination bracket.
This is a scheduled Side Event that awards Prize Wall tickets to participants based on their final placement.

Pokémon Mytery Game Tournament – $15
Compete to test your adaptability and knowledge of Classic Console Pokémon games through the ages.
You never know which games you’ll be competing in as each round will be a different game with a unique rule set.
You’ll have to be quick to think and adapt to win this competition!
This is a scheduled Side Event that awards Prize Wall tickets to participants based on their final placement.
No prior knowledge or special equipment required
Pokémon TCG Pocket Tournament – $15
Players will compete in a Three Round, Best of Three, event on TCG Pocket.
Players will be given a deck list, and must win with each deck to win the match. Deck lists can not contain the same Pokémon.
Phones are not provided for this event.
This is a scheduled Side Event that awards Prize Wall tickets to all participants based on their final placement.

Pokémon First Step Tournament – Free
An event for anyone who completed the First Step Experience. Bring your newly constructed First Step deck that you built during the weekend.
Players will then play three, Best of One matches, no Top Cut.
This is a scheduled event that awards special prizing that helps Trainers acquire all they need to compete in their first official tournament.
